Why engagement sessions ROCK and why you should book one

Tommy and I should really have engagement photos done.  Ohh Ohh, we could do them down at that restaurant he proposed to me at.  Would I have to ask permission to take photos in there?  Wait, I haven’t found a photographer yet.  I better start researching them.  Ugh, I should probably find a caterer before a photographer.  I wonder if we should have fish or chicken.  Maybe both.  What about cake.  Now that part I am excited about!  I’m going to set up a cake testing for this week.  Of course, I can’t TRY any of the cake or I won’t fit into my dress when I got dress shopping this weekend.  Maybe it can wait until the following week.  Wait, why did I sit down at the computer?  Oh yeah, to look for a photographer.  Ah, we aren’t going to put an announcement in the paper anyway, so why does it matter.  But what if Tommy wants to?
“Hey, Tommy.  Do you want to get some engagement photos done? ”

“What, huh?  Hey babe, you gotta see this!  Rodgers just threw for 16 yards!”

Yep, that is probably how most conversations go-or at least something similar.  But really, there are plenty of great reasons why you should have engagement photos done.

It’s great practice

Besides that selfie you took of yourself in your car this morning (don’t pretend you didn’t do it!), I bet it has been while since you have had your photo taken.  If I were to guess, I would say it was for your high school senior photos.

Having your photo taken can be a bit awkward at first.  You don’t know where to look, how to stand, or what in the world to do with you hands!  And don’t even mention having to pose with another person!  This could get ugly!

But, see, that is what an engagement session is for!  You can get all of the weird awkwardness out of the way.  You will get a chance to snuggle up close to your honey all while learning what to do with your hands!

And wouldn’t you rather get this done with before your wedding day?  You practice your vows, you practice your first dance, you practice your speech, why shouldn’t you practice how to act natural in front of the camera?  You should!  And the best way to do that, is with an engagement session.

It’s a trial run

You have your wedding rings on your finger and your dried up bouquet sitting on a shelf in your room.  Besides that, you don’t have much physical evidence from your wedding day.  (I happen to have a 4 foot tall table centerpiece sitting in the basement by my washing machine.  Every time I try to throw the laundry in, I either poke myself in the eye with one of the branches or scratch my arm with one of the jagged beads.  I should probably relocate that thing to a safer place)

Your wedding photos are what capture every single detail for you so you can relive them for years and years and years.  When you hand over that luxury leather-bound wedding album to your grandkids, they will smile and run their hand over the cover already busting at the seams to ask questions about they day you married grandpa.  You don’t want to leave these photos to chance!

If you are having a hard time committing to a wedding photographer, I suggest booking an engagement session as a trial run.  You will get to see how the photographer interacts with you during your session and how thrilled you are with the final outcome.

Think of it as a try-out for your photographer.  I am more than happy to book an engagement session before booking your wedding.  In fact, I think it is a smart move!

You can see what you like

As we mentioned before, it has probably been quite a while since  you have had photos done.  And you may never have had to pose with someone else in your photos.

During your engagement session, we will try out new things, practice “unposing”, (yep-that’s something I made up.  But you’ll have to book with me to figure out what it is!) and laugh until our sides hurt.

We can then look at all of your photos and decide which ones work best for YOU.  No cookie cutter weddings here!  We can then keep those in the back of our minds for your wedding day so we can get through those photos lickity split and get you back to laughing with your friends with a cocktail in your hand.

So, did I convince you?  Great!  I can’t wait!
