Why the time of day matters more than you think: The magic of Golden Hour!

You’ve booked your photo session. You’re imagining glowing skin, dreamy skies, and warm, cozy vibes in every image. You want portraits that feel timeless and beautiful. The kind that makes you feel amazing every time you look at them.
You’ve spent the time to pick the season, the outfit, the location. But one important detail you might not have thought about – timing.

THE PROBLEM MOST PEOPLE DON’T SEE
As a photographer, one of the most common questions I get is, “Can we do the session earlier? That is getting too late?”
I get it. It would be so much more convenient to do photos earlier in the day. Maybe it works best with dinner time. Or maybe it is creeping a little close to bedtime. But here’s the think:
Midday light is harsh. It creates strong shadows, squinty eyes, and washed-out skin tones. Those dreamy, glowy photos you’ve pinned on Pinterest? That didn’t come from shooting at noon.
Sidenote: If you feel strongly that doing photos earlier in the day is important, I have some great locations that will work well for you!

LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO GOLDEN HOUR
Golden hour is the time just before sunset. The sun is lower in the sky, casting soft, warm light that makes everything – and everyone – look incredible!
During golden hour
- skin looks warm and radiant
- shadows are softer and more flattering
- there’s a natural, romantic vibe ot every shot
It’s no wonder photographers solve it! But, it’s not just because it looks pretty – its because it makes YOU look your best.

YOU DESERVE TO GLOW
You’re not just booking a photo session. You’re investing in a memory, a moment you’ll look back on for years.
When we schedule your session during golden hour, we’re setting you up for the best possible outcome. You’ll feel confident, relaxed, and totally stunning in the light that was practically made for portraits.

SO WHAT’S THE PLAN?
When we plan your photo session together, we will chat about the ideal timing for your session. We will look at sunset times and build the session around you – your family, your comfort level, and the vibe you are going for.
If golden hour is too hard ot work into your schedule, don’t worry! There are creative ways to work around that, too.

DON’T MISS THE MAGIC
I know it is tempting to pick a time that is most convenient on the calendar, but your photos will thank you for trusting the process.
